Summary SAED Meeting in Bergen, Norway, Solstrand Fjord Hotel, August 28 – 30, 2009.
In the splendid surroundings of Os, a seaside village just outside the town of Bergen, the 2009 meeting of the Scandinavian Academy of Esthetic Dentistry took place.
The venue for this meeting was Solstrand Fjord Hotel with ancestry back to the beginning of last century. A better place for all the friends of SAED to associate and enjoy the scientific programme could not have been found.
Most of the participants showed up for lunch on Friday and could immediately appreciate all the excellent food and beverages at this wonderful hotel.
The afternoon was spent in the Spa or with just a short stroll in the beautiful park,
Later we all joined the Welcome cocktail party and dinner, where SAED members and newcomers enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. Over one hundred attended the meeting with 49 dentists, 20 dental technicians together with lecturers, spouses and exhibitors.
The Saturday and Sunday scientific programme was impressive with renowned lecturers giving off valuable theoretical and practical information to a very interested audience.
Serving as moderator, the honourable member of SAED, Sverker Toreskog in his irresistible way, guided the lecturers and attending audience through program.
Dr. Roy Samuelson (past president SAED), Mogens Gad and Jörgen Gad discussed
interdisciplinary dentistry. How do dentist and technician communicate? Where are we heading? They also held a special technicians program Saturday afternoon.
Anthony Laurie (president of BAAD) gave us his view on the differences of aesthetic and cosmetic smile renovation. Dr. Tidu Mankoo (president of EAED) brought about the keys to successful management of implants in the aesthetic zone.
Dr Walter Devoto started with giving us some wonderful pictures of his hometown Sestri Levante in Italy and then gave a very impressive view on stratifying composites for invisible anterior restorations.
The Saturday nights Gala Dinner and continuing partying did not prevent one single soul from attending the Sunday morning-lunch program, presenting Dr. Mauro Fradeani (past president EAED). His topic was esthetic rehabilitation, a comprehensive approach; discussing both extensive rehabilitations, close collaborations between the surgeon and restorative dentist, and natural dentition and dental implants.
For those not attending the scientific program there was a cultural program arranged with a local farmers market, music and a boat trip where you could row the boat yourself (!) to the nearby town of Os.
Saturday evening started with an enchanting short story by Ms Shau-Larsen owner of the hotel, telling us about the history of the Solstrand Hotel and her family. Sipping Champagne standing in a bedrock cellar, used to communicate with the allies during the Second World War gave us a touch of another time.
Music entertainment in a beautiful exhibition room and then everyone was ready for the Banquet Dinner.
The now past President of the SAED, Dr. John Orloff was in a great mood, leaving the duties to the newly inaugurated new President, Dr. Anders Ericson, after three successful years as head of academy. But all could see that it was with a bit of melancholy he now left office.
The feeling of friendship and joy could be felt everywhere.
The meeting ended with lunch on Sunday, with occasional sun between showers and sun in
